Acidity of Apple Juice in Different Temperature
Question
Does temperature effect the pH of apple juice?
Hypothesis
An increase of the temperature will lower the acidity level of the apple juice.
Procedure
1. Fill 2 beakers with 10 ml of apple juice.
2. Heat one of the beakers to 90°.
3. Then add three drops of brom thymal blue to each beaker.
4. Add drops of base in each beaker until a color change has been observed.
Data Table-Number of drops needed to neutralize the apple juice
Juice Temperature First trial Second Trial Third Trial Average
90° 20° 23° 23° 22°
20° 22° 20° 23° 21.6°
Discussion
The apple juice changed from yellow to green after 20 to 23 drops of base in both the heated and room temperature juice.
Conclusion
The data shows that acidity level of the apple juice doesn’t change whether it’s in room temperature or heat our data doesn’t support our hypothesis.
